Circulatory Disorder of Branch Retinal Vein: Therapy Update
نویسندگان
چکیده
Branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) as a circulatory disorder of the retinal vein is the most common visually disabling disease affecting the retina after diabetic retinopathy, and is a frequent cause of vision loss and even blindness. Previously, the only treatment for this retinal vascular disease was grid laser photocoagulation, which reduces edema very slowly and provides benefit in some, but not all patients. Lately, however, treatment paradigms have been changing. The availability of pharmacologic interventions, including intravitreal injection of vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitors has shown that other approaches to treatment can play a role in management of BRVO. The objective of this review is to evaluate the latest treatments commonly advocated, emphasizing evidence-based ones, in the light of our current scientific knowledge of retinal vein occlusion.

The discovery of anti-angiogenics or vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitors (anti-VEGF) agents is a clear breakthrough with exciting potential in medical management of retinal diseases.Ranibizumab is a humanized, affinitymatured VEGF antibody fragment that binds to and neutralizes all isoforms of VEGF, which has first received FDA approval for the treatment of macular edema due to both c...

Retinal vein occlusion is a common retinal vascular disorder causing visual deterioration in the elderly. Vision-threatening complications include macular ischemia, neovascularisations, and vitreous hemorrhages. There are central and branch retinal vein occlusions as well as their ischemic and nonischemic subtypes. Branch occlusion and nonischemic cases are associated with better prognosis, oft...
متن کاملRole of Transthoracic Echocardiography in the Evaluation of Patients with Retinal Vein Occlusion
Introduction: Retinal vein occlusion is a common vascular disorder disrupting vision. Two basic types of RVO are branch retinal vein occlusion and central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO). Retinal vein occlusion is a multifactor process including systemic illness and local retinal factors.RVO may be associated with atherosclerotic risk factors. We analyzed the role of 2 dimensional transthor...

Purpose: To analyze the correlation of optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) findings with visual acuity (VA) in patients with branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO). Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 20 eyes of 20 patients with unilateral BRVO involving the macula referred to the ophthalmology clinic of Rassoul Akram Hospital. OCTA imaging was conducted for all patie...

Retinal vein occlusions (RVO) are the second commonest sight threatening vascular disorder. Branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) and central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) are the two basic types of vein occlusion. Branch retinal vein occlusion is three times more common than central retinal vein occlusion and- second only to diabetic retinopathy as the most common retinal vascular cause of visu...
